The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) is a specialized institution established to provide higher education with a focus on research, applied sciences and technology. The university needs a peaceful atmosphere to function well.
The CPCS will sensitise the people in the region and the communities around the university on Peace and conflict prevention and the promotion of peace in order to reduce, if not eradicate the activities that promote insecurity and conflict.
Among others, the centre will also help educate the people in the region on the activities of terrorists and extremists in the already volatile situation in which the region found itself. No institution can function well in such situations.
The CPCS will be involved in relevant research activities that will significantly contribute to finding lasting solutions to the region, peace and conflict challenges that strive its citizens in the region and the country at large. As a newly established University in an already volatile environment, the establishment of CPCS will help cater for Peacebuilding and Conflict prevention issues that are affecting the region.
Also, the Centre will educate staff, students and people of the University catchment areas concerning peacebuilding since Ghana is bordered by countries engulfed with conflict, terrorism, and other insecurity-related activities.
In addition, the Centre will create room for research on issues related to Peace, and Conflict prevention at local and international levels and present the research findings on both local and international platforms.
Our Mission
The mission of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies is to participate in mediation, teaching, sensitization, organising workshops, conferences, and research activities that generate knowledge to spearhead innovation and excellence in security, conflict prevention and peace promotion programming initiatives, as well as capacities for the nonviolent conflict resolution

The Centre seeks to be Ghana’s excellence and novelty in sensitising, teaching, conferences, research and programming in security, conflict prevention and peace promotion education with partners in Ghana, ECOWAS and the global world.
- Formulating and delivering course content that provides challenging, but rewarding academic experiences for participants to lead innovation in the fields of security, conflict prevention and peace promotion.
- Assist staff to be steadfast in creating and sustaining organisational culture and a beneficial learning environment for participants
- Facilitating an interdisciplinary faculty with the expertise and holistic perspective for providing excellence in sensitization, teaching, research, publication, curriculum development, scholarship, and community service to the region, Ghana in particular and the global community in general,
- Enticing, employing and retaining internationally accredited centres with the requisite knowledge in issues related to security, conflict prevention and peace promotion
Our Objective
Aims at building capacity through sensitization, teaching, research, and outreach for peace-building, security, and conflict prevention.
CPCS research and outreach activities will also be concerned with aspects of critical peace studies, peace education, livelihood in conflict-affected societies, peace mediation processes, arms control, demobilization and reintegration in and around the Upper East region.
- Provide a platform for CKT-UTAS to integrate peace, security and Conflict studies into its curricula
- Seek to become an early warning bureau or first port of call in Peace and Conflict prevention issues in Upper East if not Northern Ghana
- To create a multi-disciplinary learning environment within which participants will be given skill development in line with issues of peace, security and Conflict prevention,
- Generate and sustain public interest in peace, security and Conflict prevention issues through sensitization and
- Enable participants, to acquire the skills for analysing conflict, mediation and peace promotion and development interrelationships through internships, fieldwork and practical field training and outreaches.
